Window Film Saves Consumers Green

Washington, DC — September 26, 2012 – Members of the International Window Film Association ( gathered in Louisville, KY, revealed that window film is in high demand as a cost-effective energy saving product and installing it to extend the life of windows is a growing trend.


“Once a consumer knows that professional installation of window film on the inside of their windows can save them an average of seven times the cost of installing a new window, all they want to know is ‘where can I get it’,” said Darrell Smith, executive director of the nonprofit IWFA in a presentation at the industry’s annual conference.

At the conference, manufacturers and distributors of window films showcased modern window films offering a variety of energy, safety and UV control features. In all cases, the minute they are installed they start working.

Many window film products have manufacturer warranties for periods from five to 20 years.  Window films for vehicles are designed to protect the occupants from harmful UV rays and keep the interior of the vehicle cooler and more fade resistant. With the latest window films being similar to low-E glass and rated by the National Fenestration Rating Council, Smith said, “Replacing structurally sound windows is not cost-effective. Even single pane windows in good condition are prime candidates for upgrading and offer a greener alternative when compared to throwing away a window that otherwise had more life left in it,” he added.
