According to The New England Journal of Medicine and Clinical Interventions In Aging, there is strong evidence that office workers, commuters and residents who are regularly exposed to indoor sunlight may face health concerns, such as skin cancer, from the cumulative effects of indoor sun exposure. Exposure to the sun’s UV rays may lead to wrinkles, skin roughness and loose or sagging skin.

“Indoors or out, the sun’s harmful UV rays damage unprotected skin,” said Dr. Howard S. Goldberg, of the Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Laser Center in Swampscott, MA. “The damage is cumulative, adding up over time, this is why people need to limit their exposure to these rays. Window film is a smart way to reduce the sun’s damaging rays,” he added. Dr. Goldberg is , a holder of a certificate of Special Competence in Dermatology and Pathology and a clinical instructor in Dermatology at Tufts University School of Medicine.

“As we spend more time indoors and in cars exposed to natural sunshine, we open ourselves up to skin damage. Valentine’s Day offers an opportunity to show a little love for your skin, by learning more about how the sun can damage your skin indoors,” said Darrell Smith, executive director of the IWFA.
