Keep Your Skin Safe While Traveling America’s Highways This Summer

Washington, D.C. – July 19, 2017 – Family reunions, visits to theme parks, and discovering national parks all mark the joys of summer vacation road trips. With the summer travel season in full swing, The International Window Film Association (IWFA), a nonprofit trade association representing leading manufacturers, distributors and dealers, encourages consumers to have professionally installed window film placed on their vehicles’ windows to protect themselves and their passengers from the sun’s damaging UV rays.

Summer tends to be one of the most popular times to travel, with over one-third of Americans traveling 50 or more miles on vacation this year. While most people think of applying sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun, many don’t think about the need for protection while travelling on the road in their car or truck.

“Many people assume their vehicle’s windows block all of the sun’s harmful UV rays from penetrating the glass,” said Darrell Smith, Executive Director of the IWFA. “In reality, the average side-window of a vehicle may only block about 70% of dangerous UV rays. By having a professional install window film, up to 99 percent of UV rays can be blocked, and it can also help to keep the car cooler making passengers more comfortable.”

According to The American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. Fortunately, it’s one of the most preventable types of cancer.  With a simple professional installation of window film on their vehicles windows, consumers can lower their skin cancer risk and have peace of mind while enjoying their summer vacation.
