Speaker Profile – Abe Rodriguez

  1. Could you start by introducing yourself and telling us a bit about your background in the window film industry? What sparked your interest in this field?

I started tinting vehicles back in 1986 when there were no plotters, no software, no social media, or internet to research how to tint. I was self-taught and just always strived to get better, and always challenging myself by taking on jobs that I had never done before. I have been a business owner since 2000 and have been operating our business for 25 years, always moving forward even when our economy was in a recession, we had growth, we dropped our prices and always had steady work. I still have a strong passion for this industry after 39 years working in the industry.

  1. What do you see as some of the most exciting developments in industry right now?

The advancement of wrap protection films in the PPF segment is very exciting. For something that is ongoing, the advancement of software that helps business owners manage their business. These types of software can be a huge help if leveraged correctly. Another exciting development is the willingness to share information through all the social media avenues. These days, there seems to be someone who is willing to help with the same issue you may be having. Its creating a tighter community.

  1. In your talk, what specific topics or insights will you be covering, and why are these important?

My thoughts are just having the foresight to always be willing to change and not get trapped doing the same thing year after year. You must always be willing to adapt to changes that will help the continued growth of the business. This industry is always changing, and your business has to adapt to that.

  1. What are the biggest challenges you see facing the industry today, and how can those in the window film community work together to overcome them?

There is a lot of misinformation about the safety film industry on how the attachment systems need to be installed. I believe the manufacturers of the safety film products need to properly train their dealer base before selling safety film and attachment systems. Another big topic is Windshield tinting on vehicles that are driven on the highways and roads. There seems to be a misconception about the law when it comes to windshield tinting. The average consumers believe that because they see so many vehicles on the road with dark windscreens that it’s legal. More awareness around these two issues can help both dealers and consumers.

  1. What do you hope the audience takes away from your session? Is there a specific message or action you want to inspire?

I would hope the audience takes away a message that you must always be willing to adapt to new business practices and technology that will help grow and take their business to new heights.
